Emma Nelson | Audit Manager

My ‘have a go’ attitude has served me well at Menzies!

What’s your Menzies story?

I have worked in an accountancy practice for over 10 years, 8.5 years at my previous Firm. I became exam qualified in December 2017, moving to Menzies during 2022 for better career prospects and the Firm’s friendly but hard-working culture. I started as an Assistant Manager in April 2022 and was promoted to Manager in April 2023.

‘Earn while you learn route’

I decided to go the ‘earn while you learn route.’ I took an A level in accounting, then studied AAT, then ACA. University wasn’t for me – I am not a big enough drinker!

I throw myself into my work and everything that Menzies and life has to offer. I am the DEI advocate for the Farnborough office, one of the training managers at Farnborough and I frequently interview new candidates, which I enjoy.

In terms of my wellbeing, I enjoy challenging myself at Park Run each week which a Senior Manager in Farnborough got me into. We regularly encourage (persuade) others in the team to come along! I completed the Farnborough Winter 5k run and managed to convince a number of others in the team to take part (against their better judgement!). You would think from all this I am a very keen runner – but I am actually not, just trying to be. I also love a gym class and bingeing a series and I love food – mostly anything Asian. Or Italian. To be honest, just food in general!

What do you love about working at Menzies?

For me, Menzies is all about the people I work with, the amazing career prospects, the fun culture, and social events – especially in the Farnborough office. Above all, the growth of the company is exciting and motivating to be a part of – I see my future here as part of that journey.
